ADMISSION PROCEDURE

The college has always followed a process of admission which is entirely based on merit. Publication of Merit Lists separately for BA (Honours in particular subjects), General B.Com. (both Honours and General) and B.Sc. (both in Honours and General) and B.Sc. (both in Honours and General) follow a transparent policy of cut off marks in the total of an intending student seeking admission and his/her particular chosen subject marks in Honours and both the total and the subject total is added to fix the student’s place or rank in the Merit List. A period of 3-4 days is given to the students for admission to the college. After the lapse of the given time period, students in the waiting lists, which are also Merit wise listed, are given the opportunity to seek admission as per their respective standing in the waiting lists to fill up the vacant seats from the first Merit List.
The fees are paid in the designated account of a nationalized Bank (Bank of India Garden Reach Branch) and the student comes to the college office with his/her money receipt and all other relevant documents including mark sheets and certificates in original and self attested photo copies of the same.
The teachers entrusted with responsibility of conducting the admission verify the documents and if found authentic admit the students to their respective streams and courses. The admission Committee strictly follows the policy of reservations (ST, SC, OBC and others) in the prescribed format as per the laws promulgated by both the Central and the State governments.
From 2000 onwards when the college secured affiliation to teach the Honours Courses in many subjects of the Humanities and Science streams it has been noticed that as the hinterland of the college is large with at least Seven Schools teaching Higher Secondary Courses (+2 courses), the students and their guardians looks upon the college as the best place to continue their journey into Higher Education whose first step is graduation. Therefore from the days of manual giving out of forms to the present day online process through the government of West Bengal Higher Education Portal the demand for admission to the college is always on the rise.
Among the departments that have always seen a surge of admission applications, English, Urdu, Bengali, Political Science and History needs mentioning. The admission seekers in the Commerce section too always show a progression towards the higher side. In B.Sc. Honours courses in physiology and mathematics have high demand amongst the students.
Individual departments in particular and the college in general is now a trusted brand for Higher Education to all the pass-outs of Higher Secondary in Garden Reach-Metiabruz area.
