হরিমোহন ঘোষ কলেজের বাংলা বিভাগের সূচনা ১৯৬৩ সাল থেকে। কলেজের সমস্ত ওঠাপড়ার সঙ্গে বাংলা বিভাগ ওতপ্রোতভাবে জড়িয়ে আছে। এই অঞ্চলের প্রায় প্রত্যেকটি বিদ্যালয়ে এই বিভাগের প্রাক্তনীরা পড়ায়। ছাত্রছাত্রীদের সঙ্গে শিক্ষকদের অন্তরের যোগাযোগ হরিমোহন ঘোষ কলেজের বাংলা বিভাগকে একটি পরিবার হিসাবে গড়ে তুলেছে। আমাদের উদ্দেশ্য ভালো ছাত্র এবং একই সঙ্গে ভালো মানুষ তৈরি করা। গার্ডেনরিচ-মেটিয়াবুরুজ অঞ্চলের আর্থসামাজিক অবস্থার কথা মাথায় রেখে বিশেষ করে মেয়েদের জন্য একটি মুক্ত পরিবেশ গড়ে তোলা এবং বৃহত্তর জীবনের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ গড়ে তোলার চেষ্টা আমাদের সবসময় থাকে। রবীন্দ্রনাথ আমাদের পাথেয় –

On 21.02.2024, the Department of Bengali organised a programme on VASHA DIBAS. Both teachers and students participated in the programme. Students decorated the stage very beautifully with colours ( Alpana ). Song, dance and recitation on MATRI VASHA was presented by the teachers and students on the occasion .

On 23rd April 2024 the Department of Bengali started an Exhibition on Sharatchandra Chattopadhya, the famous writer of Bengali literature. The students of the Department went for a Study Tour to Deulti, a village near Kolkata. Sharatchandra lived there for a long time and he had a beautiful house. Now this house has been declared as a Heritage Building by the Government of West Bengal. Our students visited that House on 14.12.2023. This Exhibition was a project on that Study Tour. Students from three semesters participated in the Exhibition. They made paintings on Sharatchandra’s novels , models on his novels and short stories, displayed photographs by them on Deulti and decorated the Exhibition Room very beautifully.
Professor Sk. Raffikul Hossain, Head of the Department of Bengali, Calcutta University was the Chief Guest. He and Principal Sir opened the Exhibition by lightning pradip. After that Professor Hossain gave a lecture on Sharatchandra in the Smart Class Room. He appreciated the Exhibition enormously. All teachers of the college and the students attended the programme. The Exhibition went on for four days ( 23.04.2024 to 26.04.2024 ).

On 26.04.2024, the Department of Bengali organised a Reunion, the 1st Reunion of Harimohan Ghose college. Ex-students from 2008 ( pass out year) to 2023 ( pass out year) had joined the programme. Ex-students, current students and teachers of the Department presented a cultural programme on the occasion in the Smart Class Room. Dr. Mayuri Mitra and Shree Amar Chattopadhya, both renowned drama personalities, were the Chief Guests. They also presented a drama, based on a short story of Rabindranath. Principal Sir, IQAC Coordinator and the teachers and students of the college were present there.

On 14.05.2024 Department of Bengali organised a cultural programme on Rabindranath to celebrate Rabindra Jayanti in the Smart Class Room from 12:30 pm. Teachers and students of the Department presented song, dance and recitation. IQAC Coordinator, teachers and students of the college were present there.
