About National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Scheme under Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, GoI. It provides opportunity to the youth of +2 level and Graduate & Post-Graduate level to have hands on experience in various government led community service activities & programmes. Since its inception in 1969, NSS has increased its strength having, at present, over 3.8 million volunteers who take part in various community service programmes across the country.

Major Activities:
National Integration Camp (NIC):
The National Integration Camp (NIC) is organized every year for 7 days. It involves over 100 NSS volunteers to undertake the scheduled activities.
The NSS Unit of Harimohan College, Garden Reach, Kolkata always remains in touch with local community by conducting new programmes and events. NSS Volunteers work with Fathepur village road slums and voluntary agencies to complete 120 hours of regular activities during an academic session.
As per the principles of National Service Scheme (NSS), a volunteer is expected to remain in constant touch with the society. The NSS volunteers of our college live with the members of the community and learn from their experience during his/her tenure in NSS. The NSS Unit of Harimohan Ghose College, Garden Reach,Kolkata,West Bengal, India has been working since 2016 in developing social and civic awareness and responsibilities among the under graduate college students.

In each academic year, one programme officer (P.O.) takes responsibility of enrolling the newly admitted students who are willing to extend their helping hands in community service. For the academic year 2022-2023, around 100 volunteers have enrolled for NSS. The following Programmes were conducted jointly by NSS Unit as regular activities for the academic session 2022-2023. As per the instruction, all activities organized by the NSS cell, University of Calcutta are treated as regular activities for the colleges.
The aim of the Regular activities is to bring youth face to face with the community and make efforts to improve their life.
